Following information is from Sid, ET3SID
The callsign 9E2ABL is a pirate and is not licensed.
He was one of my students and is using ET3AA (Club) station as his own. I am in UK at the moment and will return next week to sort things out. Please inform QRZ.com and ARRL that he is a pirate and not licensed.

Of course, it is incorrect to transmit when not licensed. Sadly, Abel is not properly licensed.
However, those who have worked or heard Abel will realise he is a very good and enthusiastic operator, located in a country which is still a “most wanted” for many operators.
It would be a shame to make Abel feel unwanted in this great hobby of ours.
Today on dx-hamspirit.com there is a very good movie on AH0BT - an operator aged 9 years old – these guys are the future of ham radio Dxing – support is what they need – not disinterest.
I’ve personally emailed Abel and Sid, ET3SID in the hope something can be resolved soon.

Abel – You are a 1st class operator. A credit to Amateur Radio, what do you need to do to get a licence now? Can we the Amateur Radio Community do anything to help you get licenced?
You will have the backing of us all, let’s do it the correct way ok?
If you promise to follow the correct route with licensing, I will support all your QSLing needs with full colour QSL cards if you use my QSL Management services on my website http://www.m0urx.com In addition to this there will be some surplus dollars left over with which we can purchase communications equipment for you when requirerd.
First we need to get you correctly licensed. Sid if you are reading this we must all work together for the good of Amateur Radio and for Abel. Good luck Abel, if you want to reply you can contact me via my contact page on my website.

It is very easy to discourage a new-comer at this stage. I’d suggest more diplomacy while announcing he’s a pirate. How many people become hams these days? Few. And how many in Africa?… You can count this with fingers of one hand. Sure Abel should stop transmitting asap but let’s help this guy instead of blaming him at once. People do mistakes, but some people may change. To my eyes it’s clear he wants to get the license. I wish him good luck!
All comments duly noted. I have spent 16-17 years in Ethiopia teaching people ham radio Abel is my student and as you can see we have taught him to be an excellent operator by using ET3AA
no need for him to select his own call sign which puts the station and my efforts at risk by using an unlicensed call sign I have encouraged the lad and gave him the keys to the station to enable him to practise. But not to have us all put in prison thats what can happen. If you want to help come to Ethiopia and give it practically instead of making comments. This has been a one man band since I have been here and as you can see by previous comments my fear is that it will collapse when I leave. I dont want to loose it all by giving the authorities an excuse to take action against us. If you wish to help contact me p.o. box 60229 addis ababa ethiopia or phone (whilst in uk)
07*263*872*. I return shortly to Ethiopia God willing. 73 de sid …………………….Within past few minutes, phone contact has been made with Sid, ET3SID. We are now trying to contact the relevant governing bodies in the UK to assist Sid with a licensing structure. However, this is not so easy to achieve. But, we will actively try.
To assist further, if you know of any licensing contacts within your own countries PTT, or a helpful operator within the ITU, please feel free to email hamspirit@hotmail.co.uk
All input is greatly appreciated.
