FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 13, 2009
CQ magazine will accept contact confirmations made on the eQSL.cc electronic confirmation system for its operating awards effective immediately, CQ Editor Rich Moseson, W2VU, and eQSL Founder and Webmaster Dave Morris, N5UP, announced today.
There will be certain limitations and procedural differences for different awards, at least to start. Only confirmations from”Authenticity Guaranteed” members of eQSL will be accepted, and in accordance with existing eQSL policy, a membership level of bronze or higher is required in order to participate in award programs via eQSL.
i wonder when CQ Mag agreed the same with ARRL for LOTW cfm ?
Its a shame CQ lowered themselves to this.
Eqsl can be scammed and it brings nothing to Ham Radio
Great finally getting into the 21st Century. Security as good or better than paper.
I assume you do not use paper QSL, as they are by far the easiest to scam.
With eQSL the awards are only to authenticated users and between only authenticated calls.
Just like L0TW, authentication is based proof that you own the call. They require a copy of your license or you can point to LoTW for authentication.
To me the signed certificates LoTW is irrelevant as eQSL is slightly more secure than my online banking (double account and password entry the bank is only single).
eQSL is closer to paper cards in how it operates. If I transpose a call sign, I will be able to correct it with either paper QSL or eQSL. LoTW assumes perfection and you will not know you made a transposition (I’m dyslexic and could be considered a professional transposition’er.. hi hi).
I like paper, LoTW and eQSL. All are relevant to Amateur Radio. Also, I feel both LoTW and eQSL are equally easy to use and paper QSLs are the most difficult. (LoTW is easy after the initial setup, eQSL is always easy to use.)
