Press release: May 15, 2009
I am glad to inform you that the Polish group of four ham radio amateurs together with their guest Michael FO5QB will be working between 28.09.2009 and 12.10.2009 from Austral Archipelago (TX5SPA) as well as between 16.10.2009 and 22.10.2009 from Marquesas Archipelago (TX5SPM) (that’s the call signs we applied for).
Our aim is to make as many QSO as possible mainly with Europe on lower frequency bands. Both countries take 21th and 19th place respectively in terms of being the places in the greatest demand. It does not mean that we intend to ignore the stations from other continents. If possible (propagation) we will be working on all higher bands. We are planning to be active on CW, SSB, RTTY (maybe PSK31).
We would like to emphasise that all the costs of the expeditions are covered entirely by its participants. We do not accept any sponsors; we are going there for our own pleasure from our own money.
We would feel humble and grateful to receive any feedback from more experienced operators than ourselves, however we will be ignoring those whose only intention is to criticise others. If you take pleasure in working with us – we are very glad. If not, you have two choices – one (an easy one) to switch off your radio or change your frequency and the other to join the expedition and show what you can do.
The QSL manager of the expedition is going to be Wojciech SP9PT.

Dear TX5SPA and all operators.
I enjoyed being able to make contact with TX5SPA on 40 meters CW with my old TS-140S (90 watts) and my home made Carolina Windom. I will be sending a QSL card along with 2 (IRC’s) to SP9PT. I’m 68 years old and on oxygen now 24/7. I’m so grateful I have this wonderful hobby that has let me meet people from all over the world. I’m not a big DX chaser but I do enjoy working DX when I can. I just have to be patient and wait until the pile-ups with the Big antennas and Big amplifiers make their contacts than I sneak in after a few days..hi hi I wish you all the success in your DXpedition and hope you are all having fun.
The most fun I had was when I was stationed in Edzell, Scotland back in 1967 while in the U.S.Navy Top Secret Crypto Communications. I helped establish the first Amateur Radio Club in Scotland for Naval personnel and had the honor of being nominated as the first President of the club. We were given ’special’ prefix’s of GM5. My call was GM5AFJ. There were about 8 of us active and after a few weeks we started getting pile-ups of stations trying to work us?? I did not know why until a local Scottish ham told us we were the only stations with the GM5 prefix!..hi hi It was fun being a DX station because of the special prefix..hi hi
