The Belt of Venus – a phenomenon related to greyline seen from XR0Y QTH, Easter Island. A 40m vertical in foreground.
Stan SQ8X, the organizer of XR0Y to Easter Island, informs that he re-uploaded all 3 XR0Y videoblog entries recorded at the island.
Due to bandwidth limitations at the island we couldn’t publish those videos at the best possible quality we first intended –Stan SQ8X says. – This is why once I’ve got back home I decided to re-export all 3 movies and now they all come in superb HD 720p quality so you may have a better look at XR0Y in action and have a glimpse of some Rapa Nui’s nature at much better quality. I also plan to continue to publish my personal videoblog as I used to before. I just need to take some rest of travelling after my 1 month long trip – Stan adds.
You may view all those 3 episodes again in HD (don’t forget to turn full screen mode on!) at this page »
Stan, the XR0Y QSL manager, says that he receives many cards with IRC coupons that expire by December 2009. Keep in mind that XR0Y will not be able to reply to cards with old IRCs as post offices will not accept them. All those incorrect QSL requests will be replied via bureau only without exception.
Stan currently works on exporting/merging more than 2500 video recordings taken at the island. Also processing photos for printing XR0Y cards is in progress. The team expects to start shipping them by late January 2010. The XR0Y team offers 3 different QSL cards via 3 different routes depending on your voluntary choice including a standard, direct way and bureau route too. They also offer a special premium 3D QSL card package containing 2 cards (3D and double, non-3D card) and smallish bag with a sample of Rapa Nui’s sand as extra bonus.
If you plan to send your QSL request to XR0Y yet, please read carefully XR0Y QSL policy info listed at this page » or order it directly via their Online QSL Request System (OQRS) here »
Tks update!
BUT: in what world are we living in that we start running several classes of QSL-standards? What sort of wording is “premium”, “3D” etc??
What can those folks with a small budged expect, 3rd classs handling via buro just because they can´t afford paying for “premium”? Perhabs you might want to introduce a QSL-puzzle for those ignorants who still live in the past using their buro service, just to fine them?
I really beg your pardon! C´mon, it was “just” Eater Island and not P5! One could get the feeling that P5 was being activated when reading your almost philosophic tales of this journey. What an achievement!
It doesn´t mean that you didn´t do a great job at all but PLEASE don´t lose control and get lost in a sort of rush. AND: activating 30 M from there was nothing too special since it has happened already a couple of times in the past, too!
Stay cool!
Thank`s for the nice dx-pedition, thank`s to Wolf for his comments.
Yes, you did a great job, but i agree 100 percent with Wolf, STAY COOL !!
that’s just an oportunity. if you don’t want to have it – just forget it. what’s the problem?
Hello Wolf (btw, why do I need to justify myself to person without a callsign?)
Thank you for your comment. It’s clear to me you did not understand what we’ve been trying to provide with our project/website and blog entries OR/AND you just don’t need projects like ours as this wasn’t addressed to you and it is something that is just not interesting to you. You probably also don’t accept that it’s our choice what we do with our plans, trip, money while we decide to organize an event like XR0Y. If you don’t appreciate the project – it’s really OK – there’s nothing offensive in having a different opinion. It’s impossible to make each and everyone happy around the world, just like you. It’s always really up to you if you decide to follow it or quit it. Just like up to us whether we agree with your comment or not or we continue our project (we will).
All team members of XR0Y perceive the ham radio as something far more than ham radio itself, points, entities, awards, catching or activating P5 or so. And we aren’t alone. Organizing and participating in this Easter Island project was something far more than just a radio experience – it was more like cultural and human experience, and the ham radio has been a really fantastic part of it. It’s been a great point to get started – a reason to go to a place with all those people we never met before but enjoyed their company so much. Our adventure doesn’t end with providing the entity on the air. If you still don’t understand what I mean, you may stop reading now as you just lose your time.
Many people can’t go there and they have no other way to learn some more about the place, people living there etc. but with the Internet, books, and – some of them – via the ham radio. We just think it’s been a great chance to connect the hobby with something that people are looking for as well. There were thousands of hits of our website per day and many many emails with positive feedback have been received, which we really appreciate. Even now, when the DXpedition is over, we still receive emails with questions regarding the place etc…
Many individuals don’t understand (or they don’t want to) we provide more ***voluntary*** options of QSLing and we don’t force anybody to pay for this or that. There are people who don’t need any special cards. They prefer just a point for an award and cards are used for verifying their scores only. And there are some collectors really enjoying having something more than a card. If we have a possibility to make our offer more complex, why should we refuse it? They all have a possibility to chose what they want, aren’t they?
All cards will be very nice and printed at very high quality. If you still doubt it, see my portfolio with cards I’ve designed/printed so far.
We always really appreciate all comments – we read them all and we are thankful for sharing your opinion Wolf.

Stan, the problem is that you are apparently too selfish in order to accept others´ opinions, though you say so :-) Otherwise I wouldn´t find such harsh words between your lines of your comment.
Seems like it has been a while since you had to read some negative critics.
Despite your strong believe to be in touch with a narrow-minded person, I can assure you that I´ve perfectly understood your whole “mission”
The entire thing just starts to be some sort of childish.
You seem to regard yourself as the chosen one, the one who has got the force to tell the people what nice world we are living in, one family etc. es bla bla bla!
It is not my mission to change you but you won´t change the world!
BTW: Did the transport of sand from Pascua actually comply to local rules? What if everybody does so??
Hi Wolf,
It seems as though you’re here the childish. Accept the art and wisdom of others and let your childish behavior at home. Stan tries to convey an idea of his view on. Your understanding of this seems to be very limited. Keep your fingers still and do not try to teach others what they have to do! You must not place yourself in the foreground like a school teacher. END
I have no intention to be rude or to say anything “between lines” as you suggest “Wolf” (or whoever I write to as you still didn’t introduce yourself with your callsign).
Wishing you a very good luck with your DX projects/challenges.

Wolf and others who continually choose to not display their callsigns (or are using an improper email address when replying) will have their future replies “spammed” or deleted – there is no need to garbage this place.
As owner, I’d like to verify you are genuine – or a bogus/troublesome poster, of which very, very few exist here.
Out of decency, and by acknowledging “hamspirit” – read: dx-hamspirit.com - I’d appreciate if you and anyone else from now on displays a proper callsign and uses a true email address. It’s not much to ask. Indeed, over 95% do without being asked..
IP addresses are logged for avoidance of doubt.
Everyone is, of course, entitled to an opinion, but I don’t particularly like to see spam appearing.

Col – I agree with you but the lack of callsign in replies can be just because the ‘Leave a Reply’ template does not specifically require it. Perhaps the top box should be split into ‘Name (required):’ and ‘Callsign (required):’
Stan – most right-minded people with a soul will know what you and your team achieved in terms of personal goals as well as ham related goals. You all have something special to treasure for the rest of your lives and sharing a little of Rapa Nui with those who wish it is very thoughtful.
I support Stan, SQ8X and Team XR0Y. His contributions are moving ham radio to the next level.
Stan — your vision is right on in my logbook!

To people like Wolf I have only one thing to say – get your behind off the chair and go organize your own expedition. Then you are free to impose your own vision, philosophy etc. whatever and however you like. You are fully entitled to disagree with Stan (and other XR0Y team members for that matter) but don’t expect him to fall on his knees and listen to your gospel in awe. He is free to IGNORE your comments and I would be surprised if he did otherwise.
Peace,
Les NI1L
