REMINDER: Malyj Vysotskij expected to be deleted February 17, 2012.
The day of deletion has now been confirmed: Finnish and Russian ambassadors met January 17th and exchanged the documents signed by the presidents of both countries. The new agreement of the lease of Saimaa Channel will be in force one month from today – February 17th. As the new agreement does not include Malyj Vysotskij, the island will be deleted from the DXCC-list the day before, February 16th 2012.
This is, of course, subject to the decision of ARRL DXCC Committee.
It’s unlikely that any DXpedition will come on from the island before the deletion, although our Russian friends would have a possibility to do it.

And how about Kingman – that one has been in limbo for 10 years now.
There was an attempt to activate Malyj for last time ever last july (for the IOTA contest). The team included Russian, Finnish and a Spanish operator but already then the authorities did not issue any permission to activate it. :(
At least Kingman is a proper island! Can never understand why DXCC don’t remove Scarborough Reef from the list. It was never a legitimate entity, should never have been added and would not be now, and when one sees what is required to activate it…….you gotta be completely nuts to go there.
Anyone know how many countries will be required for DXCC Honor Roll after this deletion?
Bob
340-9=331
340-9=331 countries for DXCC HR after deletion (if happen)
