UPCOMING: A team of eleven will be active as VK9NT from Norfolk Island between May 3 – 12, 2013 with four stations covering all bands on CW, SSB and RTTY.
For more information please visit our web site.
Why would they need sponsorship for this one? Norfolk Island is a well know Holiday Destination with regular flights etc. Not sure why they would need extra support??
As of now, 6 May, the statistics at Clublog show a whopping 14 RTTY QSO’s with EU, of the 858 Q’s in this mode so far, which is about 10% of their total number of contacts. The questionaire on their webpage shows a need of 24% in this mode. So there is room for improvement. Still hoping …

What’s more the Clublog statistics show a fantastic 11% for EU total compared with 41% AS and 40% NA!
Now we all know that propagation isn’t that great during the current so-called “solar maximum” but maybe could try a bit more for openings to EU on the higher bands – 17 / 21 / 24m ???
Anyway good luck and 73
Chris
Hi guys.
We have info on our web site about the Dxpedition. Propagation has been variable from outstanding on 10/12m to fairly average. We are making every effort to work EU as well as the more difficult paths to SA and AF. Each day we have a review with the team on our statistics and continue to hunt for the openings to EU. We have one RTTY operator and Allan is doing an outstanding job keeping the RTTY station as active as he can.
The pileups are big – probably bigger than in Vanuatu last year. Today we activated SOTA on Mt Bates which was a lot of fun…
Hope to hear you from Norfolk Island

Thanks for been very active on 10m today on CW and RTTY for Europe. 73, Andy
Tom GM4FDM, Hi Tom, thanks for your message. We don’t need support… we just appreciate it. If people are happy to assist in offsetting our $1200 airline freight costs to get all the gear to Norfolk Isl then we are most appreciative. We don’t mind paying airfares, accommodation, food, cars, fuel etc etc etc. But it is nice to get a little support to offset these costs that come with the territory…. 300Kgs of radio gear. Hope to hear you on the bands.

Hi guys,
Tnx for the expedition indeed and the new one on 30m :-)
If any, propagation opens to Western Europe on 10m not before 07:00z at the earliest. At 06:00z when you QSY, MUF is still too low in all Western Europe to have a chance.
This explains why there is still no ON / PA / G / GW / GM / EI / HB /EA / EA6 / CT logged on that band so far (Despite the fact there are a lot of big guns there).
Actually, among the 11 QSO’s on 10m made with Zone 14, we clearly see a propagation corridor DL / OE / OZ who are easterly located within z14, roughly one hour ahead of us in Western z14……I know that from your part of the world, those nuances are hard to be seen, but they play a big role locally here in terms of opening, above all when dealing with almost-polar path circuits;
As a summary, I’d appreciate if you could stay longer on both 12/10m to give us this chance.

To Chris, VK3QB, since you actually read the comments here on DX World, I hope you can act as a “pilot” for the other operators. In addition to what Ronan wrote above, let me give you some propagation information as well.
I just counted the last numbers of clublog published 10 May, and it shows a total of 549 QSO’s with zone 14, while the number of QSO’s with zone 15 is 1503! So there is a BIG difference, while all is considered as Europe …
Zone 16 (EU Russia) totals to 970 contacts)
I really try hard to get you in RTTY for an ATNO. I took off from work and I was copying you on 20m with a big signal, but because of local QRN at your side, there just was a QSO every 2 or 3 minutes, and after a short while, you disappeared.
For example, this Friday morning, 0450Z, you where good copy on 10m according to OE6MDF. At my QTH, just a mere 340km north-east of OE6MDF, not a single beep from you. It may have gotten better, but I had to leave for work then.
I ask you now to please try to maximize the number of RTTY contacts, especially WEST EU, and do some REAL RTTY work on a work horse band like 30-20 or 17m, where more people have a chance propagationwise.
Still hoping for a single RTTY contact. Have fun and a safe return.
