Earlier reports suggested this call was a slim, however info received from the ZK3N team confirms that ZK3T is indeed Dieter, DJ2EH (ex-ZD9T).
He has been active on 15, 17, 20 & 30M CW but his focus will soon be on Low bands.
ZK3T is QRV until February 20th. QSL via DJ2EH.

(Note: ZK3T info on QRZ.com is old now updated).
(Note II: When active as ZD9T, Dieter also operated unannounced).
When I worked him yesterday afternoon here in Japan on 30m CW, he came back to me saying “GM 599 TNX”
My feeling was that this one was not ZK3 but somewhere in Europe or South America.
If he was really in Tokerau, he should say “GA” or “GE” at that time we worked.
There is no ZK3T licence on the NZ Radio Spectrum Management database. This is puzzling. I’ll check again on Monday!
However, the operator is definitely not the ZK3T pirate I have heard on in the past few years. He’s a good operator and making a good job of the pileups. I’ve worked him on 17m, but will log it as no country until I see some official confirmation. The signal seemed to be coming from the right direction!

Sent off an email to DJ2EH. Will post reply if received.
See above. DL2AWG of ZK3N team confirmed that ZK3T is legit until Feb 20.

who is the QSL manager??? any secure infoss???
Worked ‘ZK3T’ on 20m CW today, he was very loud for a few hours. If it’s genuine, it’s an ATNO for me.
Would have been nice if he could have put a bit of information online before leaving, would have saved lots of QRM both on and off air.
Thanks Col for the news.

ZK3T is QRT on February 20th, so looks like Dieter DJ2EH is on Atafu atoll being picked up by the PB Matua on that date.
Ultimately, it is confirmed he’s real :-)

Luke…You will have not find it on the NZ RSM Callsign Database. Even though ZK3 is a “so-called” NZ Territory it is still a independently run one and their Telecommunications Authority issue the ZK3 License.
I initially thought he was a Pirate too but all ok now.

Ok, Bill. I’ll stop looking at RSM!
Thanks info. I just need ZK3 on 10 m to complete the sweep there.
Dieter is doing a great job, so enjoy the hunt.

I can confirm Dieter has been in contact with me about a voyage to ZK3 land. He asked me to assist him in obtaining a callsign. Unfortunately I was not able to assist (ZL can not issue ZK3 calls despite as bill says the calls falling in ZL’s catchment) but I was able to point him in the right direction. I look forward to working him soon and will add ZK3 to the log :)
Why choose the long time pirate callsign. Get another callsign and put it on qrz.com and we wouldn’t have to worry about this rubbish.
I just worked Dieter on 12 meters. He is a very good CW operator and is making good progress with the pileup. I thanked him by name and he asked for mine. ZK3T was a new one for me. My only regret is he’s not on 10 meters. Hawaii is booming into the East Coast so I think the path would be open. Nevertheless I’m not complaining. I will take a new one on any band I can work them.
Please QSL Via LoTW.
