A trip to South Orkney Islands

By Medhi, F5PFPAntarctica contributor for DX World.net

In approximately five months from now, a multinational expedition plans to be operating from South Orkney archipelago, Southern Ocean. This will be a great activation for DXCC hunters as this entity is still very wanted on LF & WARC bands, but also for newcomers and Antarctic chasers too.

These islands are very symbolic because it is the entrance to Antarctica at 60°02 South and hosts Orcadas – the oldest and mythical Antarctic station continuously occupied since 1904. If you’d like to learn more history – and listen to music depicting South Orkney Islands and bases – click here and here. *With particular thanks to Horacio LU4DXU who operated successfully under AY1ZA in 2004.
