    March 8th — On March 10th, Mehdi will try to QRV as FT5YK/p from Groussac refuge [Arg] at Port Circoncision [Fra] IOTA AN-006, so two bases for a single operation.     67°27S 67°56W – we tried in vain to land on Detaille isl a few days ago. It was too stormy and dangerous. A new attempt today, but without any guarantee of success.

    68°10S, 67°00W – I will be QRV in a few hours from two bases: Stonington island as VP8DLM: Base E [UK] and KC4/FT5YK: East base [USA].

    February 27th: Mehdi updates us with the following:

    66°24S, 67°10W – Hi from near Watkins island – impossible to land for the radio, very bad condx: snow, icebergs everywhere, wind is yelling in the ropes of the mast and I love it!! We now must cross the Gulet Passage that was closed by an ice pack barrier one week ago. Still hope to operate from bases – impossible to give you a date..

    February 18th: Mehdi was QRV as CE9XX today between 00-05z on 40m SSB from Lennox Island, SA-050. Thereafter he plans to “visit Wollaston Island and then departure to Palmer Islands”.

    February 14th: Prior to his Antarctic expedition, Mehdi F5PFP has been active today as LU/FT5YK from Ushuaia on 20m SSB. An expedition led by Mehdi F5PFP will leave from Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego Province, Argentina on February 15, 2011 for a 45-day voyage, with one of the goals to visit and operate from rare Antarctic stations & IOTA. Below is the full planned itinerary onboard the sailing yacht L’île d’Elle.

    L’île d’Elle is 16 meters in length (48 feet) and specially built for polar navigation. It can accomodate 5 passengers as well as 2 crew. Captain Jean-Yves is the skilled skipper who led the 2009 expedition of which here are a few photos in music.
