Wow! What a DX-filled year that was! Awesome! Even the sunspots returned! Finally!
At the very start of 2011, we were all treated to VP8ORK South Orkney. Then ST0R an all-time new one from South Sudan. Who could forget the record-breaking T32C on Christmas Island? Indeed, there are so many other expeditions all worthy of a mention – partly why the DXpedition of the Year poll was set up.
2012 looks every bit as good, if not better than last year. HK0NA, Malpelo and VP6T, Pitcairn will soon take to the airwaves. It’s refreshing to see two major expeditions working together coordinating band operations. Long may that continue into 2012 and beyond.
The IOTA Marathon begins with KL7RRC kicking off from NA-240 NEW. Diamond DXCC Challenge starts too. If that’s not enough to whet your DX appetite, remember to check out the Commonwealth Century Club 2012 Jubilee Award. These are just a few awards, proving Ham Radio DXing is alive and well.
From a personal perspective, another year has passed with DX World continuing to grow into a very popular DX/IOTA related website – doing what it was always supposed to do – become a source of Ham Radio news for real DXers. A quick breakdown of stats from the last 12 months show the following:
1) +1,000,000 visits.
2) +2,000,000 page views.
3) +1000 DX news items published.
4) +600 dedicated IOTA announcements.
5) 74% rise in hits compared to the previous year.
As owner of DX World, I wholeheartedly thank the guys behind the scenes who keep the ship afloat. Special mention to Max IK8LOV for his unselfish and hard work during the last few months in particular. Luis, EA1CS for his dedication in updating the DX World/twitter page daily and to Igor, RA3CQ for making the Soundbites page his own!
To all readers and contributors who make the website tick, a very Happy New Year to you!
